The Aviator Inn welcomes the good news of another fairly local pub being brought back into use, currently undergoing a sympathetic refurbishment and due to open in the next week or so.

The Black Dog located on Church St in Newent, built in 1760, it was first a Farmhouse and has been a pub for over 100 years, and it boasts 2 resident ghosts - a 'Lavender Lady and Charlie' - a headless Cavalier

The Lavender Lady is believed to be the unquiet spirit of one of the women who sold lavender nosegays to ward off the stench of unwashed England in the Middle Ages, and Charlie is believed to have been one of the unfortunate Royalists who lost his head during the English Civil War.

The pub has kept its period features throughout particularly in the bar, seating area and dining room but also has been moved into the 21st century with features such as Sky Sports on 2 large screens, and Free Wi-Fi.

We wish the new owners every success for the future.
